Lakewood

At the turn of the 20th Century, Lakewood was transformed from an area of small family farms into one of the most bustling districts in town thanks to the addition of an electric trolley car line and construction of an amusement center officially called “Lakewood Park,” unofficially called “The Coney Island of the South.” Folks came together to bowl, ride the rollercoaster, watch a diving horse, roller-skate, and swim. While Lakewood Park is no more, that same spirit of entrepreneurship and community connection thrive today in Lakewood. As the home of a number of the restaurants that put Durham on the Foodie map like Fosters and other uniquely “Durham” ventures like the Scrap Exchange, Lakewood offers lots to do and a true Durham experience. Honey Hill allows you to be in the heart of it all, come on over for a visit.
